Tutorial: Olive Grove aka Layered Waterfall Twist!

As requested by many of you, but specifically for one special woman – you know who you are!

This is such a versatile tie using the “Waterfall Twist” technique!  Make sure you are comfortable with the original technique before trying this one!  Keep in mind as well that depending on how you tie the knot, you will either end up with the fringe father forward or farther back.  Both work!  Check out the photos to see the different ways this technique can work out – it can go super fancy!   For the original look, you will need a shimmery and 2 in 1 in the same colours.  Also experiment with where you tie the knot – it changes the whole look!  Higher up on the crown of your head give a more “crown-like” look  (ie the navy in the tutorial).

Here is the tutorial!

The DB Goes Higher!!

Hi Everyone!  I’ve been trying to figure out a way to do the double braid so it doesn’t just sit like a low bun (not flattering on everyone’s face shape), and have figured it out!  You just need to wear your shaper/bun much higher, and when braiding, make the braid loose so it’s longer.  I suppose you could skip this step if you can find super long scarves, but I prefer using traditional length scarves so wanted to find a way using these!

Check it out!  I actually rewrapped it after taking these photos and now it’s even higher than this!!  Woohoo!

It is SUPER hot and humid today in Jerusalem (39 C /102 F)… so I’m wearing a floaty skirt and of course my tichel is off of my neck!  Thank Gd, with staying in the shade and drinking lots of ice water I so far haven’t melted!

Look ma – no shaper!!

Many of you have been asking for fancy styles that are possible without the shaper, so I’ve been experimenting for you!  Here’s the lowdown: if you like a lot of volume by your face, prefer a less layered look, and don’t care if the bun part of your head is either not there or small, then you don’t need a shaper.  However, if (like me) you don’t benefit from having lots of volume by your face and like to do lots of layering (just not right on top of your head), then a shaper is a must!  I have, however, really enjoyed experimenting with having more volume/layers around my face… but I’m realizing that it’s just not the best look for me!  Luckily I do have enough hair to allow me to do some layering at the back, but not enough for my taste.  I was asked today, by someone that sells mitpachot, what kind of shaper I’m wearing, so maybe I’m just biased – what do you think?

Here I am wearing two ombre 2 in 1s and one regular navy 2 in 1:

It was definitely harder to keep the layers neat without the shaper!  On first try, the tichel itself looked good but *I* didn’t because there was so much layering around my face!  On second try I was able to move the layers back a bit, but the result wasn’t as easy and neat as when I have the shaper to wrap around.

And here I am wearing just a gold shimmery!  This is actually something I really liked, and I definitely got approval from my mother in law! It looked so fancy yet was so easy – thoughts?

Chaya Lester, the Poetry Slam ‘Kabbalist Feminist’ is a Lady Wrap Star!

A beautiful photo of Chaya being awesome, before we met!
A beautiful photo of Chaya being awesome, before we met!

You may recognize Chaya from this video, which has spread around the hair covering world like wild fire!  Before I came to Jerusalem, Rivka Malka contacted her and we all agreed that we had to meet and connect, as well as get Chaya Wrapunzeled!  Little did I know, that the Shalev Center, where Chaya lives, is less than a two minute walk from where we’re staying!

We started off with some Wrapunzel makeovers, both with my wrapping Chaya, and her wrapping herself while asking questions!  We figured that would be super helpful to everyone here… like having a coach in your own room!  We ended off with an interview, and I must say, if you watch one video out of all of these, watch this one!  But really, watch them all – she is so awesome and I’m super happy that you get to meet her!

We first started with a sari scarf and shimmery together:

And then Chaya wanted to try doing it herself!  Awesome!

And now… the quick and easy Waterfall twist!  3 minute video, and it shows both my doing it on her and her doing it herself!  Win!

Finally, here we are doing an interview.  Seriously deep insights into hair covering and what it means to be a female!  She is just so cool – I hope you’ll learn as much from this as I did!

Sisterly Love!

How grateful am I, to not only be in Jerusalem, but to also be here at the same time as my sister in law, Naomi.  Many of you will recognize her as a Lady Wrap Star on here, and she is so humbled that her post has touched so many women!  There is much that I want to say about sisterhood and friendship; and though we both didn’t grow up with sisters (I have one brother, she didn’t have siblings), we are learning together.  We are learning that there is infinite power and potential in woman to woman connection, and I know that loving and bringing out the best of each other is going to change the world!

And now… tichels 🙂  Yes, we traded sari scarves!

And here’s a closeup of my wrap!  Peacock pin was a long time ago gift from Naomi, and sunny shiny yellow scarf is from my mother in law.  Yay for beautiful gifts and feeling your head being hugged by the ones you love!

Let’s all take a moment to be grateful for the incredible women (and of course, men too – let’s not forget them!) that we have been given, and think of one nice thing that you can tell one of these people today.  Now, go do it 🙂  With love.

Sari Graffiti

Saw this wall.  MUST TAKE PHOTO!!!!!  Good thing I’m wearing my green sari scarf which paired perfectly with the funky colours!

Outfit, you say?!  I just wore this swingy, comfortable skirt.  It’s so lovely and I find myself wearing it under too-short dresses and also on its own!

Summer Soft Yet Strong!

I’m loving the look that came out of these scarves this morning!  It manages to be both soft (the colours) and strong (the angles) at the same time!  I’m using three scarves here: two 2 in 1s, and one ombre 2 in 1… it’s so light!  And for those of you that are looking for colors that won’t overheat you, here is your answer!

And oh mannn… this necklace of my mother’s that I discovered recently (it’s also in the last post!); I’m wearing it almost every day!  Now I just need to hunt some down for the store so you can all enjoy something similar!

And finally… the outfit!  This skirt is a real winner – colorful, light, soft, and fun!  And with all the teal and blue that is already in my wardrobe, it’s easy to put together gorgeous outfits!  Love!

Hope you are all having a beautiful day!!  Sending you a big smile and a reminder to everyone to take a few minutes today to talk to your creator about anything that is challenging you, and also give a big, grateful thank you for the gift that life is.  Kol tuv! ❤

D.B. Mania!

The Double Braid (now named the “D.B.” by Wrapunzelettes) is becoming my every day go-to!  It has quickly replaced the standard tichel bun, and don’t worry, when you do it over and over it can be done so quickly!  The 2 in 1s make it so easy and perfectly light for the summer!  Here are two that I’ve worn lately – one in Florida and the other one in Baltimore today.

The D.B in Florida! So light and cool with the 2 in 1s!
The D.B. in Baltimore! Looks gorgeous with a flower clip and colourful dress!

Would you like a tutorial?  I should probably make an updated one but here is where it all started… two years ago in the holy land of Jerusalem!  The only difference between this video and what I do in the photos above is tucking in the ends instead of leaving them hanging!  Looking forward to having you join the D.B. club!!

My tichel matches my… cello?

As I was playing today my husband noticed that my tichel matched my cello!  Well… not quite, but close enough!

Soooo I am wearing my two new favourite tichels from the summer line!  These ombre two in ones are so awesome!!!!  They’re very light and durable and I’m finding that adding one is like adding three new scarves without adding any bulk!  And this brown pashmina (we named it Andrea’s Brown because I’m so crazy about it) is just… so yummy!  I can’t even explain why I love it so much… it’s just such a special color!  And these pins – Rivka Malka and I had doubts about these… they actually aren’t so great off a tichel, but ON a tichel!  Wow!   Made for it! My husband says they remind him of grapes 🙂  They just add so much… very happy!

Sending so much love and happiness to all of you!!  Play on!

Warm Forest Green

I have this gorgeous green sari scarf that has a touch of purple in it – so that lets me wear green and purple together, right?   Right 🙂

andrea grinberg wrapunzel

And the tichel went from lovely to even lovelier with these perfect pearls, attached with a regal clasp, of course!  (Don’t what I’m talking about?  Check out this video now!)  I am loving how a strand of pearls can balance the rustic-ness of the sari scarf!  I find myself wearing them almost constantly!

It’s funny that I NEVER would have worn these colors together before starting to cover my hair!  So now I’m curious – what color combinations has tichel tying allowed you to try?  Which ones were the most surprising for you?

Photos of “The Crazy Beautiful” Wrap!

Here are some stunning photos that Rivka Malka’s daughter, Hadassa, took of “The Crazy Beautiful”!!  So happy to finally share them with you!!  How have your experiments with it been going?

It reminds me of all those intricate updos that ladies would do for weddings – except you don’t need hair extensions and hours or labor!  And no, it isn’t that heavy if you wrap towards your head instead of pulling down!  It’s actually quite comfortable and made me stand up straighter!

So Much to be Thankful For!

Hi Everyone!  So for those of you that have been following the whole Wrapunzel/Wrapunzel The Store saga (“Wrapunzelution” is now a word!!!!), you will know how incredibly blessed both Rivka Malka and I are to be on this whirlwind adventure!  There is a revolution brewing, and you are the ones that are starting it!  Incredible!  Anyway, here are some tichels and outfits I’ve been putting together lately that have made me feel both modest and regal!

Rockin the Rustic Romance… this scarf is still my favourite!  It just hugs the head so nicely!  And seriously I can’t get enough of these Signature Max pins… they grab so much scarf and lay so flat!  Can we all hope together that one day we can get them with gold backing?

A slightly more formal outfit that flows – and the colours are very sun/hot weather friendly!  My husband loved the lace (he likes when I wear white!) and yes, this is another necklace attached by our friend’s new invention, the Regal Clasp!  There will be a video about it soon!  (And yes, our kitty photobombed because she loved hiding under this skirt!)

This rustic, layered yet simple tichel was perfect for a sunny day running outdoor errands!  There weren’t any tails hanging down which equaled much more functionality than my usual braids and twists!  Just make sure you put sunscreen on your neck or stay in the shade!  (For those that are wondering, it’s the dark red 2in1 and brown NYB!)

Another functional outfit that wore beautifully!  Hello cowboy boots!

And last but not least… one of the most beautiful tichels I’ve ever worn, with lovely colours and intricacy.  The outfit was such a joy to move in; modest and feminine.  This one will definitely be repeated!  (Tichel is Rivka Malka’s Teal pashmina, sash from the Truffleberry kit, and Wrapunzel Buckle!)

Some Outfit Inspiration!

Here are 4 outfits that I wore recently that were perfectly enhanced by tichels!

I’m always asked how to match up patterned shirts with tichels.  “Is it possible to wear a patterened shirt with a patterned head scarf?”  The answer is yes!!  Just look for similar colours and flow, and you’ll look even more put together!

My favourite blue dress with a flowing blue scarf (a gift from Rivka Malka – and yes it will be a part of the store soon!), with pearls and a brown Israeli tichel for contrast!  Loved this one!

This next outfit was so much fun!  I was worried about putting all this texture together but the separate elements enhanced each other!  This photo was taken after a long day and in bad light, but you can only imagine what it looked like before!  The colours are so happy!

And last but not least, a photo from a recent concert… elegant and understated.

I hope this post shows you how tichels can help you do MORE with what you already have!  Let me know what you think and please keep sending in your requests!  It really helps me out!  Kol tuv ❤
