Fandom Headwraps!

Wrapunzel Community “Groupies” – your FANDOM WRAPS gave you the chance to put on your thinking caps (lol!) and create colorful, crazy, and yes some quite creepy headwraps to sing the praises of whatever “tichels” your fancy!  Be it a book, movie or television series, fictional character, sports team, college or university, favorite color, whatever, your heads carried the message of your unfaltering devotion to your fandoms.  You can read more about fandom below, but NOW, Wrapunzel sings YOUR praises!  GO WRAPUNZELISTAS!

What is a “fandom?” Well, back in the ‘olden’ days, people with fandoms were called “groupies.” Groupies would usually show up at every concert a particular music band had to offer, no matter its geographic location. Some would take their “groupiness” on the road, traveling from coast to coast to see their faves perform their biggest hits night after night. The crowds would go wild – and the groupies would end one show waiting for the next time when they could eagerly worship their ‘heroes.’  Offhand, Deadheads (The Grateful Dead), Parrotheads (Jimmy Buffet) and Metalheads (Heavy Metal Music) come to mind, and they’re still roaming the globe today in hot pursuit of their beloved celebrity.

Today, “fandom” seems to have taken on a broader scope.  Wikipedia defines a “fandom” as subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of empathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. Fans typically are interested in even minor details of the object(s) of their fandom and spend a significant portion of their time and energy involved with their interest, often as a part of a social network with particular practices (a fandom); this is what differentiates “fannish” (fandom-affiliated) fans from those with only a casual interest.

A fandom can grow around any area of human interest or activity. The subject of fan interest can be narrowly defined, focused on something like an individual celebrity, or more widely defined, encompassing entire hobbiesgenres or fashions. While it is now used to apply to groups of people fascinated with any subject, the term has its roots in those with an enthusiastic appreciation for sports. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary traces the usage of the term back as far as 1903.[1]

Fandom as a term can also be used in a broad sense to refer to the interconnected social networks of individual fandoms,[vague] many of which overlap. There are a number of large conventions that cater to fandom in this broad sense, catering to interests in film, comics, anime, television shows, cosplay, and the opportunity to buy and sell related merchandise. Annual conventions such as Comic Con InternationalWonderconDragon Con and New York Comic Con are some of the more well known and highly attended events that cater to overlapping fandoms.

Regardless of its definition, fandom is a mindset of celebration, an opportunity to let your creative juices flow.  A way for one to express love for anything at all.  A way to let others know a little of what YOU are all about, and each and every one of you is beautiful inside and out – others just can’t wait to know you.  OUR Favorite Fandom is YOU, Sweet Wrapunzelista!  Keep that in mind, and on your HEAD, each and every time you wrap!

Wrapunzel Challenge: Turban Extraveganza!

turbans-wrapunzel

Hello, Wrapunzel Ladies! Another two weeks have passed, which means that it’s time for another Wrapunzel Challenge! But before we get to our next theme, let’s take a look at some of the incredible creations the wrappers in our community came up with recently for our turban challenge: We saw turbans with one scarf and turbans with two. Big turbans and more compact, subtle ones. Turbans utilizing bold, bright colors and ones with earthy hues… Endless creativity all around!

While they certainly aren’t for everyone, it was wonderful seeing ladies experiment with something new and different, sometimes even find a new favorite way of wrapping entirely! Check out this awesome email we received from one of our participants:

I actually didn’t like the turban style for myself, or so I thought, until I actually did one this morning with a twist on top, and it took me like 3 minutes tops to achieve it, and it is now my favorite wrap to do! 😀 It feels like it stays on my head better too.

Amazing, right?!

We hope you all enjoy our gallery and be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this post to learn the theme of our next challenge. We’re SO excited for this one!

Wondering what we’ve got up our sleeves for our next challenge theme? This one’s simple as can be and is a seasonal favorite for many, especially as we go into the Chagim… The theme is WHITE! For the next two weeks, we’ll be experimenting with white wraps and accessories, ladies! In the colorful world of Wrapunzel, we find that this color can frequently get overlooked, but there are still TONS of possibilites for how to incorporate white into your wraps. Whether it’s wearing one white tichel or adding it as a complimentary hue, we just know that you’re going to love this one!

Would you like to participate in the next Wrapunzel Challenge? Head on over to the Wrapunzel Fangroupand share your pictures using the hashtag #wrapunzeledinwhite. Wrapunzel Challenge: The Blues!

bluesbanner-wrapunzel3

While this shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, here at Wrapunzel, we see a lot of headwraps. Not a lot, actually, but a TON. After seeing so many amazing creations over the years, it becomes apparent that certain colors tend to be more beloved by wrappers than others and the color blue definitely falls under that category.

For our most recent Wrapunzel Challenge, we asked you to wrap with blue. Not one particular type of blue, but all blues. Whether it be cobalt, teal, aqua, indigo, cerulean or even combinations of two or more- all were included! The submissions we received truly covered the entire spectrum and it’s wonderful to see how this hue can look different depending on the skin tone of the wearer, what other colors it’s worn next to and how it is tied.

Need some inspiration for how to wear your own blues? Take a look at our incredible collage from our #thewrapunzelblues challenge! It’s got wraps with tails and layers and twists and turbans and so much more. Want to participate in our next Wrapunzel Challenge? Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for the big reveal!

Wrapunzel Challenge: Simple Style!

Bannerfinal3

We’ve just wrapped up another Wrapunzel Challenge and this one really took us back to basics- #simplywrapunzel was all about wrapping just one scarf around your head, without the use of added accessories. Sounds boring, right? WRONG!  If there’s anything that this challenge taught us it’s that one scarf can be wrapped in a seemingly infinite amount of ways and that the possibilities truly are endless!

With so many elaborate styles of wrapping out there, it can be easy to focus on more intricate and involved ones- Styles with multiple scarves, sashes, pins, clips and everything in between. Sometimes, taking a step back can be so cathartic for the seasoned wrapper. After all, even a basic Regal Wrap can have you looking like a queen!

Thank you all SO much for your participation in #simplywrapunzel! Want to learn how to participate in our next challenge? Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this post for instructions and the big reveal!

So, if you’ve made it this far, you must be curious about our next challenge, right? For our next theme, we’re revisiting a color, but it’s not as straightforward as some of our previous color challenges have been. Our next challenge will have us feeling blue… Not only blue, but shades of blue. How many different shades can you manage to include in the same look? We’d love to see! Dark blue? Check. Pastel blue? Check. Sky blue? Check! Whether you choose to wrap with one shade or many, we’re SO excited to see all of your creative wraps with this incredibly versatile color. Have fun, ladies!!!

The Wrapunzel Challenge Update!

Hello, world! Did you participate in the Wrapunzel 31 Day Challenge? It was simple, really. For the entire month of May, participants tried a new wrap style every single day, with the end result of both experimentation and fun! Most of us weren’t able to follow along with all of the different styles, but a few ladies from our glorious Fangroup not only stood up to the challenge, but documented their journeys in collage form, as well. Click on Sami, Beth and Diane’s collages below:

Amazing, right?! This challenge can be done on your own during any time of year, but we definitely intend to revisit it again in the future. Did you all have fun? We sure did!

As we jump back into our bi-weekly challenges, this next theme is one that Andrea, in particular, is absolutely THRILLED about. A classic tichel style that was one of the first she ever made a tutorial for – way back before Wrapunzel even existed!  What is it, might you ask? ……drumroll……. BRAIDS! Tichel braids! With so many ways to tie ’em, we’re sure to see a virtual avalanche of unique wraps and amazing styles. Yay!!!!

Would you like to participate in the next Wrapunzel Challenge? Head on over to the Wrapunzel Fangroup and share your pictures using the hashtag #wrapunzeledinbraids. If you would also like them featured on the next bi-weekly blog post, make sure to also post them in the comments on the pinned post at the top of the Fangroup page, so we know to share them. Sensational Sashes & Our Brand New 31 Day Challenge!

banner4

Hi, ladies! It’s time for another Wrapunzel Challenge wrap-up post and we’re SO excited to share these amazing creations with you! We’re also pleased to be announcing a VERY special 31-day Wrapunzel Challenge, so be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post, after you’ve perused this week’s gallery. It’s one that wrappers can participate in during any month of the year!!!

Our most recent theme was wrapping with sashes and it’s been incredible to see all of these diverse looks on social media and elsewhere. Thank you all SO much for your participation!!!

What is a sash exactly?  Well, they’re what we call scarves that don’t cover your head completely. They might be too narrow or perhaps are a scarf folded lengthwise (to be worn as an accessory over another scarf). Either way, there is a seemingly endless amount of ways to wear them and if you’re looking for inspiration for how to wear your sashes as a head scarf, this post is not to be missed!
