So Much to be Thankful For!

Hi Everyone!  So for those of you that have been following the whole Wrapunzel/Wrapunzel The Store saga (“Wrapunzelution” is now a word!!!!), you will know how incredibly blessed both Rivka Malka and I are to be on this whirlwind adventure!  There is a revolution brewing, and you are the ones that are starting it!  Incredible!  Anyway, here are some tichels and outfits I’ve been putting together lately that have made me feel both modest and regal!

Rockin the Rustic Romance… this scarf is still my favourite!  It just hugs the head so nicely!  And seriously I can’t get enough of these Signature Max pins… they grab so much scarf and lay so flat!  Can we all hope together that one day we can get them with gold backing?

A slightly more formal outfit that flows – and the colours are very sun/hot weather friendly!  My husband loved the lace (he likes when I wear white!) and yes, this is another necklace attached by our friend’s new invention, the Regal Clasp!  There will be a video about it soon!  (And yes, our kitty photobombed because she loved hiding under this skirt!)


This rustic, layered yet simple tichel was perfect for a sunny day running outdoor errands!  There weren’t any tails hanging down which equaled much more functionality than my usual braids and twists!  Just make sure you put sunscreen on your neck or stay in the shade!  (For those that are wondering, it’s the dark red 2in1 and brown NYB!)

And last but not least… one of the most beautiful tichels I’ve ever worn, with lovely colours and intricacy.  The outfit was such a joy to move in; modest and feminine.  This one will definitely be repeated!  (Tichel is Rivka Malka’s Teal pashmina, sash from the Truffleberry kit, and Wrapunzel Buckle!)

Sophisticated Wedding Wear!

Anyone looking for a more professional/sophisticated way to dress modestly and wear a tichel?  Look no further:

The above photo really doesn’t show how awesome this dress is; I rarely wear black but this one manages to be comfortably modest yet feminine and flattering.  I wore a pair of dark low heels with it.

And [drumroll] here is a closeup of the tichel!  I am really loving loving LOVING the double twist braid lately!  And I have a pretty wacky idea of an extreme variation on it which I’m gonna try tomorrow… stay tuned!!  But about this wrap: it’s incredible how similar colour families can make an intricate wrap much more subdued.  Of course, if the occasion were more business-y the headband necklace wouldn’t have been included… but this was for a wedding!

Do the Shimmery 2in1 Happy Dance!!

Can I even begin to tell you how happy these scarves make me??  The Shimmery is my forever dream scarf (I’ve been wearing my gold one for YEARS!) and the 2 in 1s make all my braiding fantasies possible!   Here are two styles I’ve been wearing lately!  Woohoo!

First of all… the elegant double twist braid (with the ends tucked in instead of out) done with the 2 in 1s  – it’s never been easier!

And now my two current favourite Shimmery colours: Teal and Green!  Been doing a version of the zig zag criss cross with these!


I will say this again and again (and again!):  the MOST important part of tichel tying is having fun!  I am so lucky that I get to do this mitzvah of embracing my soul, marriage, and self worth in such a beautiful way every day!  Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Some Outfit Inspiration!

Here are 4 outfits that I wore recently that were perfectly enhanced by tichels!

I’m always asked how to match up patterned shirts with tichels.  “Is it possible to wear a patterened shirt with a patterned head scarf?”  The answer is yes!!  Just look for similar colours and flow, and you’ll look even more put together!

My favourite blue dress with a flowing blue scarf (a gift from Rivka Malka – and yes it will be a part of the store soon!), with pearls and a brown Israeli tichel for contrast!  Loved this one!

This next outfit was so much fun!  I was worried about putting all this texture together but the separate elements enhanced each other!  This photo was taken after a long day and in bad light, but you can only imagine what it looked like before!  The colours are so happy!

First Try with Pearls!

This wrap inspired by a dear friend (you know who you are!) who has been wrapping for only a few short months and has quickly become a wrapping superstar!  (I’d love to feature her as a Lady Wrap Star!  Soon, hopefully!)  Her signature look is adding beautiful pearls to an already gorgeous wrap, and I’ve been searching for a nice pearl headband to try it with!  Finally found one!Gold green pearls wrapunzel andrea grinberg

I started off with a green pashmina, then added my favourite gold shimmery scarf (will I ever get tired of this tichel? I hope not!) – then topped it off with the beautiful pearls and green pin.  What do you think?

Hi ladies!!  Check out this new way to wrap your sari scarf!  It’s a normal tie, just with the lines on an angle… and then the pin is placed at the top of the head instead of the side like I’m used to!  Yay happy experiments!  What do you think?

And do y’all think it’s about time I got myself another sari scarf?  😛

Post Shabbat Tichel Snap!

I’m wearing my favourite sari scarf again… I just can’t get enough of it!  Also super excited about this new sash (yes it’ll be available in the store) that just takes everything up a notch without any effort.  Notice how different the sari scarf looks when I’m wearing a thicker scarf underneath – more volume at the sides and back!  (Try comparing to this post.)  

Also notice the sparkly brown scarf underneath… another one of my all time favourites!

“The Naomi Knot” Tutorial

Wowwwww what a response to the last post!  You all really wanted a tutorial, and I wanted to figure out new ways of doing this awesome Naomi Wrap… so here you go!

Sooooo what should we call it??  I have already thought of “The Naomi” but that probably won’t work because I have a feeling we will have many more wraps on here inspired by her!  Something with the word “Knots”?  But nothing “knotty” please :p

Gorgeous New Scarf Trick!

My sis-in-law Naomi (remember her as a Lady Wrap Star?) posted this super cool wrapping style she created yesterday, and I just HAD to try it!  I wanted an simple around-the-house-doing-work style for today, and this one is as easy as she makes it sound… and guess what – I’m not wearing a shaper/volumizer!  Just a scrunchy!

Here are her instructions on how to do it!
Take one long, lightweight rectangle. Tie at the nape of the neck (ends hanging at equal length. Tie a series of 4 single loose knots with the ends. Wrap up and over the bun. Takes two minutes, looks so complicated!!
Just make sure you use a really long scarf so that even after the knots you still have long enough ends to go all the way over the bun and tuck in.  For a shorter scarf maybe 3 knots would be better 🙂

Thanks Naomi for the inspiration!!  Here is a shot of her wearing it (with a longer scarf so therefore tighter knots and a shaper/volumizer underneath.)  See how tiny little “details” change the whole look?  Imagine with a sparkly scarf – it could even be formal wear!

Hi Wrapunzelers!  I’m happy to introduce you to Rebecca, a woman who proudly wears her tichels in the workplace and writes about her experiences!  Here is what she has to say to us Wrapunzel ladies about herself… let’s give her a warm welcome!

Hi everyone!
I’m Rebecca, and I’ve been covering my hair since I got married about for about four and a half months ago. When I was engaged, I put a lot of time and effort into researching how and why I was going to cover my hair. I wanted the mitzvah to be meaningful and something I connected with. I really enjoyed reading the book Hide and Seek: Jewish Women and Hair Covering by Lynne Schreiber. I recommend this book to anyone who is considering covering their hair for Jewish reasons. While I was engaged, I took a trip to a sheitel store and tried on a few wigs, but I just didn’t connect to the wig. So hats, scarves, and tichels it was!

I have a lot of fun covering my hair and matching my coverings to my outfits. And my collection of hair coverings keeps growing! As times goes on, I’m getting better at adding accessories, like hair pins and earrings. I’m still working on getting more of the elaborate tichels and wraps to stay on my head all day without having to re-adjust!

I work as a school psychologist at a public high school with essentially no Jewish community. I had worked at my job for about two years before I got married and covering my hair. So, when I started covering my hair, it was very obvious. I get a lot of questions, comments, and remarks from co-workers and the students I work with. And the remarks are overwhelmingly positive! I get comments saying how classy I look, and I get into meaningful discussions about the Jewish concept of marriage.

Now that I’ve started covering my hair, most of the people I work with know that I’m Jewish. I look at this as an opportunity to be a Kiddush Hashem; to be a positive example for the Jewish people.

Because all of my friends and family enjoyed the stories I told them about the comments I get about covering my hair and being Jewish at work, I started a blog. It’s called Jew In The School: The Adventures of the Tichel-Wearing School Psychologist. You can follow me on Facebook  and read the blog too!

An Update!

You may have noticed my daily Wrapunzel posts haven’t been so daily lately!  Between much travel (all for simchas, thankfully!) and setting up The Wrapunzel Store (which will be opening Gd willing in 1 1/2 weeks – ahhhh!), I have been tad overwhelmed.   I also had to get a new computer and lost access to my photos, but that’s another story!  Rest assured, as soon as this preparation phase is over, I will be back and posting as much ever.  There will be a very exciting Lady Wrap Star featured tomorrow and I am receiving even more zig zag criss cross photos from different ladies!!

One Scarf Many Ways Part 2!

You loved seeing one scarf tied in multiple ways in the last post… so here is another!  This green silk scarf was a gift from a woman who makes them (I posted about it in one of my first Wrapunzel posts) and it often makes an appearance on my head!  This day was full of bike riding so I had to take my tichel off and tie it again a few times… here goes!

The next tie was an experiment… I have seen gorgeous ties with lots of detail at the top and wanted to try it!  This one was beautiful and I got a lot of compliments, but I personally feel like it didn’t suit my personality and face shape.  Hope that someone else is inspired by it!

And last but not least, I needed to tie something on my head quickly when I got home at night… here is a simple wrap using this stunning silk scarf:
