Classic Layered Ponytail Tutorial!

Can anyone come up with a better name for this wrap??  I’m not a fan of the one I came up with above…

Here is the tutorial that you have all been waiting for!  This particular wrap is a match makers dream!  I know it’s sometimes hard to match tichels… but keep trying and don’t be afraid to incorporate something new into your wrap!

Two Outfit Ideas for You!

Hello lovely ladies!  Here are two similar outfits that I have worn that I thought you’d like!  It’s wonderful how wearing a scarf with multiple colours allows you to incorporate those colours into your outfit, and instead of clashing, they now match!

What do you think?  How has covering your hair inspired what you wear?

Spiral Rose Tutorial!

A word to the wise: if you have just stumbled upon Wrapunzel and/or you are hair wrapping beginner, best you not start with this tutorial!  However, you should definitely watch it to see the wraps that are possible!  This is the most technique intensive tie that I have done, and as you can see in the video, I still haven’t perfected the mechanics of it!  However, so many of you asked, so here is the tutorial!

Princess Wrap Tutorial

Here is how to do the much-coveted princess wrap!  As you can see by watching the video, this wrap is very easy to do, provided that you have a large enough scarf to begin with (really, my “scarf” is just a piece of cloth).  Instead of the lace, you can just use any other long scarf, but the lace makes it look much more royal.  Enjoy!

Reaching Infinity

Yes, you read the title correctly!  I finally got myself an infinity scarf, because so many of you have been asking me how to wrap one!  This is the first wrap that I came up with:

Keep in mind that infinity scarves vary by size, width, and material.  This particular one had two sides to it ( white lace and blue) and was not stretchy.

This beautiful, sparkly, antique brooch held the wrap together perfectly.  It is quite easy to do, and doesn’t require a volumizer or any particular hair length!  Who wants a tutorial?

Elegant & Earthy (aka clothing post #1!)

You asked, and I have listened!  Here is the first of hopefully many posts where clothing matching suggestions are included.   Many ladies shy away from anything other than solid colours when covering; I know I used to!  However, this need not be.  As long as you use the scarf to pull out and enhance colours of your outfit, the scarf can actually allow you to wear MORE colour combinations than you previously would dare.  I am looking forward to showing you how this is possible as I post more clothing advice.

But I digress.  Here is outfit #1!  Often for my outfits, I pick the scarf first (because obviously that’s what I love choosing the most), but in this instance, the shirt was one I had been wanting to wear for a while, so that was picked first.  The brown skirt and layering shirt were easy choices, and the orange and gold scarf matched the shirt perfectly!  Even though the scarf has silver threads in it, the gold earrings and pin were a good match.  I could have easily added a green sash to the scarf wrap as well.

You may recognize the scarf as the background curtain of many of the tutorial videos.  Remember?
andrea grinberg wrapunzel tichelThis scarf was delegated as a curtain because I previously thought it was too thick to wrap well.  Since moving, the pashmina “curtains” were taken down, and I decided to try wrapping it on my head!  I don’t think this will going back to being a curtain any time soon 🙂

The scarf was wrapped in a basic pashmina regal wrap.  Here is the result!

I hope you are all doing well and having a lovely weekend!

A Softer Black and White

I always find black and white combinations a bit stark on me… but am realizing that the contrast can be softened with pretty patterns, intricate designs, and soft textures.

Oh, and the “pin”?  Clip on earring.  Yep.  Works incredibly!
(Thanks to my friend who made the recommendation!)

Moving update: we are in the middle of our move currently (at a rest stop right now) and should be in Baltimore soon!  Likely won’t have internet there for a bit which is why I’m making this post now.  Also, a few of you asked… no, we did not live out of boxes for 2 months because we had so much stuff to pack!  We actually have very little, as we were living in a studio apartment and are currently driving ourselves cross country in a teeny moving van.  However, for our last two months in Chicago, we were apartment sitting, so therefore had to pack up everything for the move beforehand!  Thank you all for your well wishes!

To celebrate, we are going to do a giveaway!  Two winners will be picked on August 1st!

What will I be giving away?  Get excited…

I will be mailing the  winners a velvet headband (my personal tichel secret!) as well as a handpicked scarf just for her!  How will this Wrapunzel Wrap Kit be selected?  All you have to do to enter is leave a comment at the bottom of this post telling us:

1) What is your favourite colour and why?
2) How would you describe your personal style and how does hair covering fit into this?

That’s it!  One winner will be chosen at random on August 1st, as well as another winner whose entry is a personal favourite, and then I will go on a shopping trip for them and send a velvet headband and handpicked tichel through the mail!

Kol tuv (all the best), looking forward to reading your entries, and may we celebrate many more milestones together!
Love, Andrea

[FYI – please be sure to comment/enter only ONCE.  When you submit your entry, it has to go through me for approval and I am usually not at my computer so it may be a while before your comment appears.]

Wedding Wow!

What kind of head wrap should one wear to a wedding?  And epic one!

This style is an elegant waterfall twist wrap with the new sash that I featured last week thrown in for extra wow power!  I put my bun/volumizer much higher than usual to give it extra height.  Here it is from the side:

And since many of you have been asking me to do full outfit posts as well as headwraps… this next shot is for you!  I am still debating whether or not I want to post my clothing choices because this site is about hair wrapping, not modest fashion (there are many ladies on here that wrap their hair and do not dress like I do) but I know it can sometimes be hard to match wraps with outfits.  Disclaimer: I am not a fashionista in the least and it is hard to take self shots of outfits!  But for what it’s worth, here I am wearing a floor length silk dress ($8 thrift store sale yeah!) and a purple shell underneath:

Anniversary Tichel!

It’s not every day that I celebrate being married to my outstanding husband for exactly two years.  Here is the tichel that I wrapped for our anniversary:

Bright ‘n’ Beautiful!

I try to convey to women that one should continuously strive to love covering her hair (as with all mitzvot), which means coming to understand it deeply, emotionally, philosophically, logically, and then learning how to put all that knowledge into her daily practice.  On the same note, I would never advise a quiet, subdued woman begin by wearing outlandish wraps, same as I would not advise an extroverted, bubbly woman start covering by wearing something neutral.

That being said, we are so much more than the labels that we give ourselves, and I ALWAYS encourage women to try something new and not get stuck in a hair wrapping rut.  I have often surprised myself by loving colours and styles that I had previously deemed “not me”.  Hence the story behind this beautiful wrap;  Hot pink, bright green and a huge yellow flower?  So not “me”.  But I tried it, and ended up loving it!

Here are too many pictures of this beautiful wrap.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did 🙂

Casual Scarf Made Formal

This scarf is one of the first tichels that I purchased.  I love its versatility, but had never worn it in a formal setting.  I decided to try it out!  Who knew that with a little extra height and a sparkly pin, this scarf could be just as fancy as the rest of ’em!  The elastic in the scarf kept everything put for the whole night, and the pin held everything together with a little extra security.  I will definitely be trying this one again!

New Sari Scarf!

If you have been following this blog for a while, you may already know about my love for the “sari scarf” that I own.  For those of you that don’t, a sari scarf is a scarf made of recycled sari strips.  It’s beautiful, and with one easy knot makes it look like you are wearing a myriad of scarves on your head.  I wear mine whenever I need to pull off something fast and formal… so when I found another one in thrift store ($3!) of different colours from the one I already own, I decided to get it.  Here it is!

And here is the tutorial on how to do this wrap!
