Soft Emerald Olive Grove

Can someone tell me why I’ve never worn this gorgeous color on its own??  I wore it two days in a row and can’t wait to put it on again!!  Have you ever tried wearing olive or emerald?  What do you think?

This wrap is the green “Shimmery” (it has a olive-y hue) and an olive 2 in 1 paired with a strip of lace that my sister-in-law lent me!  And after snapping this first photo I realized that I had the perfect necklace which belonged to my mother to use (with the regal clasp) as an accessory:

This new pencil skirt (30 shekels in the shuk – huzzah!) was a perfect match for the lace top and tichel!  Here I am taking a moment to relax on our patio where we’re staying in Jerusalem.  (Did I say hammock?! Woohoo!!)  I hope you are all doing so well and I am sending you so much love and hugs from the holy land!  Keep on Wrapunzeling on, ladies!

D.B. Detailed Tutorial!!

I’m in Jerusalem!  And of course the first tutorial I make in the beautiful neighbourhood of Nachlaot is… a detailed version of the same video I made the last time we were staying in Nachlaot two years ago!  Here is how to do the Double Braid (the DB!) with 2 in 1s, with the ends tucked in!

D.B. Mania!

The Double Braid (now named the “D.B.” by Wrapunzelettes) is becoming my every day go-to!  It has quickly replaced the standard tichel bun, and don’t worry, when you do it over and over it can be done so quickly!  The 2 in 1s make it so easy and perfectly light for the summer!  Here are two that I’ve worn lately – one in Florida and the other one in Baltimore today.

andrea grinberg wrapunzel
The D.B in Florida! So light and cool with the 2 in 1s!
The D.B. in Baltimore! Looks gorgeous with a flower clip and colourful dress!
The D.B. in Baltimore! Looks gorgeous with a flower clip and colourful dress!

Would you like a tutorial?  I should probably make an updated one but here is where it all started… two years ago in the holy land of Jerusalem!  The only difference between this video and what I do in the photos above is tucking in the ends instead of leaving them hanging!  Looking forward to having you join the D.B. club!!

My tichel matches my… cello?

As I was playing today my husband noticed that my tichel matched my cello!  Well… not quite, but close enough!

Soooo I am wearing my two new favourite tichels from the summer line!  These ombre two in ones are so awesome!!!!  They’re very light and durable and I’m finding that adding one is like adding three new scarves without adding any bulk!  And this brown pashmina (we named it Andrea’s Brown because I’m so crazy about it) is just… so yummy!  I can’t even explain why I love it so much… it’s just such a special color!  And these pins – Rivka Malka and I had doubts about these… they actually aren’t so great off a tichel, but ON a tichel!  Wow!   Made for it! My husband says they remind him of grapes 🙂  They just add so much… very happy!

Sending so much love and happiness to all of you!!  Play on!
Love, Andrea xo

Two Ways to Wear Jeans!

Look how feminine jeans can be!  We love dressing up our jean pieces with gorgeous tichels and accessories!
Rivka Malka Wrapunzel

These photos were taken while we’re preparing for our new summer line to launch at the Wrapunzel store!  It all happens tonight at 8pm EST on wrapunzel.com – we are so excited!  (And so is Rivka Malka’s doggy!)

Raspberry Chocolate Creme!

I never would have thought to put these colors together… I brought home these two pashminas to try out from our new summer collection, and I loved them both so much that I couldn’t decide which one to wear!  My husband said, “Why not both?”  I’m glad I listened to him!

(The two pashminas will be called “summer purple” and “Andrea’s Brown” – I paired it with the creme ruffled waves sash and a fabric pin!)

After the tichel was decided the outfit came easily:

Warm Forest Green

I have this gorgeous green sari scarf that has a touch of purple in it – so that lets me wear green and purple together, right?   Right 🙂

andrea grinberg wrapunzel

And the tichel went from lovely to even lovelier with these perfect pearls, attached with a regal clasp, of course!  (Don’t what I’m talking about?  Check out this video now!)  I am loving how a strand of pearls can balance the rustic-ness of the sari scarf!  I find myself wearing them almost constantly!

It’s funny that I NEVER would have worn these colors together before starting to cover my hair!  So now I’m curious – what color combinations has tichel tying allowed you to try?  Which ones were the most surprising for you?

Photos of “The Crazy Beautiful” Wrap!

Here are some stunning photos that Rivka Malka’s daughter, Hadassa, took of “The Crazy Beautiful”!!  So happy to finally share them with you!!  How have your experiments with it been going?

It reminds me of all those intricate updos that ladies would do for weddings – except you don’t need hair extensions and hours or labor!  And no, it isn’t that heavy if you wrap towards your head instead of pulling down!  It’s actually quite comfortable and made me stand up straighter!

So Much to be Thankful For!

Hi Everyone!  So for those of you that have been following the whole Wrapunzel/Wrapunzel The Store saga (“Wrapunzelution” is now a word!!!!), you will know how incredibly blessed both Rivka Malka and I are to be on this whirlwind adventure!  There is a revolution brewing, and you are the ones that are starting it!  Incredible!  Anyway, here are some tichels and outfits I’ve been putting together lately that have made me feel both modest and regal!

Rockin the Rustic Romance… this scarf is still my favourite!  It just hugs the head so nicely!  And seriously I can’t get enough of these Signature Max pins… they grab so much scarf and lay so flat!  Can we all hope together that one day we can get them with gold backing?
andrea grinberg wrapunzel

A slightly more formal outfit that flows – and the colours are very sun/hot weather friendly!  My husband loved the lace (he likes when I wear white!) and yes, this is another necklace attached by our friend’s new invention, the Regal Clasp!  There will be a video about it soon!  (And yes, our kitty photobombed because she loved hiding under this skirt!)

This rustic, layered yet simple tichel was perfect for a sunny day running outdoor errands!  There weren’t any tails hanging down which equaled much more functionality than my usual braids and twists!  Just make sure you put sunscreen on your neck or stay in the shade!  (For those that are wondering, it’s the dark red 2in1 and brown NYB!)

Another functional outfit that wore beautifully!  Hello cowboy boots!
andrea grinberg wrapunzel

And last but not least… one of the most beautiful tichels I’ve ever worn, with lovely colours and intricacy.  The outfit was such a joy to move in; modest and feminine.  This one will definitely be repeated!  (Tichel is Rivka Malka’s Teal pashmina, sash from the Truffleberry kit, and Wrapunzel Buckle!)

Tichel Love? MELANIE Love!

I’m very happy to introduce you to Melanie!  I met her on facebook about a year back.   She is inspiring in both her enthusiasm for tichels and helping others… really, just all aspects of life!  Her upbeat posts and support of everyone is infectious!  Oh, and let’s not even begin to talk about her incredible wrapping skills – I’ll let you see for yourselves!  I know she’ll make you smile ear to ear!

photo 1

Hi Melanie!  Can you tell us a bit about yourself!  How you grew up, what you enjoy doing, how you spend your time, etc.? I was adopted out of foster care at a young age. I grew up a military child, moving around a lot. I really enjoy my children, reading, and creating things. I have 4 children. 3 boys and an angel little girl we adopted. We are foster parents and LOVE living the life of all things child related. We homeschool and spend lots of time together as a family. I love it!

What led to your covering your hair with tichels?
Oh my so many things attributed to me covering my hair…the beauty of it drew me in like flames in a fire. It has been a journey of discovering who I really am.  I feel like I am hiding a piece of me that I used to let define me (as a former hairdresser) and saving it for my husband. When I do this I feel like I am showing others the true “me” not just what I wanted them to see which was for me, mostly about my looks and hair. I want to be modest and for me, that includes covering my hair and saving it for my sweet man!

How has your life changed since starting to cover? Many things have changed since I started covering. Most for the better, but let’s be real – sticking out like a (beautifully covered) sore thumb in an uncovered community has its moments, some encouraging and some just down right hard. In the hard moments I hold my Tichel up high and remember I am a Queen and I do this for the love and  respect of others whether they know it, or understand it. So I’d say it has made me more humble.

How did people around you react? They are still reacting. At first it was like an elephant in the room, sometimes that elephant is still there. When I feel it there I picture myself wrapping a beautiful Tichel on it… Then I start mentally wrapping up other women’s heads. That normally helps! Haha! Most are curious why I do, some want to argue about why they think I do, and some surprise me and start covering their own beautiful little heads! I tend to be flooded with compliments by complete strangers. Some women have started covering and will send me pictures of them all wrapped in beauti-mus-ness! I love that SO much! Overall I would say it has been taken very well by others 🙂

What do you love most about tichel tying? Everyday is a new day and a new Tichel! I am excited every night to wake up and put on a new/different Tichel the next day! I love how different ways of tying & colors and textures bring out different features of my face and my style.

PLEASE share with us your tips and tricks!! When I started buying scarves I was all over the place, anything that caught my eye I bought it. Now, I have a method to it. I like to buy lots of plain colored scarves to use as a base, I will watch for sales and stock up. So when I see different textures, odd sized pieces or wild colors I know I am bound to have a “base” that will match it. I also buy a lot of solid color clothing, that way I can be a little more wild & free when buying my Tichels and don’t have to worry about having something to match them.

What is your favourite tichel? Impossible question! Haha! Israeli Tichels are my favorite “type” though.

What recommendations would you make to someone who is just starting to learn how to tie? Watch videos of others tying, master one look you really like…and just keep trying! 😉 AND a velvet band is a MUST!

Can you tell me any interesting stories about the women you’ve met during your covering journey? A funny flattering story…I was in the grocery store with the kids, we turned onto the drink aisle and a container of juice had spilled all over the floor. I sent my oldest to go get a sales clerk and while he was gone a woman came down the other end of the aisle. She just kept staring at me. I was thinking she had seen the juice but she just kept walking straight for it, staring at me. Eventually she got so close and was about to walk right into the lake of grape juice all over the aisle so I lunged forward and said “stop!”. She was utterly shocked and snapped out of her fix on me, I said “ma’am there is juice on the floor be careful” she said…”I cannot stop staring at how beautiful your wrap, (is that what you call it?) is on your head….you are a breath of fresh air, and I cannot get enough! You are so modest AND beautiful! I don’t see this everyday!” It made me smile for a month! I promise! Haha!
I also had a case worker for one of my babies, who covers her hair and knows the lovely Zarinah El-Amin Naeem! We were so excited for the pictures from the last head wrap expo and wanted to come so bad! She would bring pictures and calendars of beautiful wraps when she would come over and we got to connect through our wraps. The first time she came to my house we both just stopped and stared at each other. It was funny and we laughed about it later. We were both so shocked to meet and have that in common!

What is your favourite colour? Oh my……the rainbow. Haha! I love all colors! I think purple and teal are my two “favorites” but it’s hard to say for sure! I love all colors!
What are you grateful for right now? The amazing, encouraging, sisterhood of women that cover as well!

Sophisticated Wedding Wear!

Anyone looking for a more professional/sophisticated way to dress modestly and wear a tichel?  Look no further:

andrea grinberg wrapunzel

The above photo really doesn’t show how awesome this dress is; I rarely wear black but this one manages to be comfortably modest yet feminine and flattering.  I wore a pair of dark low heels with it.

And [drumroll] here is a closeup of the tichel!  I am really loving loving LOVING the double twist braid lately!  And I have a pretty wacky idea of an extreme variation on it which I’m gonna try tomorrow… stay tuned!!  But about this wrap: it’s incredible how similar colour families can make an intricate wrap much more subdued.  Of course, if the occasion were more business-y the headband necklace wouldn’t have been included… but this was for a wedding!

Rivka Malka’s Funktastic Outfit!

Rivka Malka came over today to plan for our upcoming workshops/shows and I could not get over how awesome her outfit was!  Especially on this rainy day!  “What shows?” you may be asking;  well, we have 7 (maybe even 8!) planned between now and June 8th… craziness!  My next post will be giving those dates and places to you because you’ve asked, so sit tight, they’re acomin’!  ANYWAY, here’s what RM had to say about what she was wearing today:

“A cropped jean jacket is a perfect coverup for a shell that you might otherwise not feel comfortable wearing on its own!  I just got this one and I know it’s going to be a joy to wear this summer!  It really brings everything together!  And whomever said you can’t wear patterned tichels with patterned skirts?!  Just make sure that the color families are complimentary!”
andrea grinberg rivka malka wrapunzel

And here is what she had to say about her fantastic tichel:  “I really think the dandelion joy is the most underrated tichel.  I wear mine constantly [Andrea’s note: she really does!] and it somehow manages to do what both a flowered and geometric scarf can do, without really falling into either category!  It has so many colors that you can choose to bring out – I chose the pink today – and its movement and lightness is perfect for the summer.  I can’t get enough!”

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how awesome this woman is?!  Seriously… in awe!  Enjoy, y’all!!
