Four-Strand Braid Rainbow!

This is one of my favourite outfits that I wore in Israel… the dress allows for so many tichel colour combinations!  This 4-strand braid always makes me so happy!!

… walking down the back streets in the neighbourhood of Geula:

And standing on the hill where my husband and I got married!  You can see the wall of the old city behind… such a holy place!

In these photos I’m wearing four 2 in 1s – I was out all day in the boiling heat and stayed quite cool!  I would, however, if I wanted it to be cooler, choose a style without so much hanging tail on the side… but it was super fun in the breeze!

Shabbat shalom, world!  (And Shavua Tov to those of you already in Shabbat that will see this afterward!)

Rivka Malka’s Funktastic Outfit!

Rivka Malka came over today to plan for our upcoming workshops/shows and I could not get over how awesome her outfit was!  Especially on this rainy day!  “What shows?” you may be asking;  well, we have 7 (maybe even 8!) planned between now and June 8th… craziness!  My next post will be giving those dates and places to you because you’ve asked, so sit tight, they’re acomin’!  ANYWAY, here’s what RM had to say about what she was wearing today:

“A cropped jean jacket is a perfect coverup for a shell that you might otherwise not feel comfortable wearing on its own!  I just got this one and I know it’s going to be a joy to wear this summer!  It really brings everything together!  And whomever said you can’t wear patterned tichels with patterned skirts?!  Just make sure that the color families are complimentary!”

And here is what she had to say about her fantastic tichel:  “I really think the dandelion joy is the most underrated tichel.  I wear mine constantly [Andrea’s note: she really does!] and it somehow manages to do what both a flowered and geometric scarf can do, without really falling into either category!  It has so many colors that you can choose to bring out – I chose the pink today – and its movement and lightness is perfect for the summer.  I can’t get enough!”

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how awesome this woman is?!  Seriously… in awe!  Enjoy, y’all!!

A Happy ‘Mismatched’ Accident!

My outfit today is a bit of an enigma; I don’t remember how it actually materialized.  I started off with my brown stretch pashmina tichel, a wrap skirt and a mint shirt, but between taking photos, getting cold (hence the sweater and scarf around my neck), and adding an extra sash scarf on my head, I ended up feeling VERY mismatched.  And do you know what’s even more mysterious?  I have barely left my house today (yet), and have already received glowing compliments from the many people that have come over!  I was like, “really”?!  But the women commenting are very stylish, so I decided to believe them!  So I’m going to go out like this!  I guess it does all look pretty funky!

Here’s my tichel:

And here is the awesome mismatched yet somehow working outfit!  My skirt is from Israel when I went there for the first time!  I remember being so hesitant to buy it because it ‘wasn’t my style’… and now it’s one of the most worn skirts in my wardrobe!

Signature Colours!

So in case y’all haven’t heard yet, a Wrapunzel Store will be opening soon!  Your demands have been heard – yay!  For now, the blog and the store are being kept separate (most of you requested this) but since Rivka Malka‘s and my life right now is revolving around setting this baby up, many of my wraps are done using our new scarves!

Tichels are generally a hit and miss … and since we will only sell what we wear ourselves, (and for a price we would pay – this one is a toughie!) searching for perfect scarves has been quite an adventure!  Recently one particular scarf arrived which made us gasp in shock and excitement because the colours were simply EPIC!  I wore it yesterday and couldn’t wait to post it!

It’s a one scarf wonder!  What do you think?

We also just sent one of these out to the lucky winner of our recent giveaway.  I can’t wait to see what she does with it!

Side view of colour epic-ness!

It’s like, all of my favourite colours at once!  And this wrap was so easy to put together (did it without a mirror in much haste!)  Enjoy!

Wedding Wow!

MAZAL TOV MY BROTHER GOT MARRIED YESTERDAY!!  (Well, two days ago if you don’t go by the Jewish definition of day which starts at sundown.)

Yes, his wife is already lined up to be a Lady Wrap Star!

Here are some unofficial photos what I wore!  Aqua is the bride’s favourite colour 🙂

Classic Layered Ponytail Tutorial!

Can anyone come up with a better name for this wrap??  I’m not a fan of the one I came up with above…

Here is the tutorial that you have all been waiting for!  This particular wrap is a match makers dream!  I know it’s sometimes hard to match tichels… but keep trying and don’t be afraid to incorporate something new into your wrap!

Wrapunzel Ladies do the “Zig-Zag Criss-Cross”!

Wow!  Hello stunning colour combinations!  Check out all the different looks you can get from this wrap – all created by the ladies of Wrapunzel!  Great technique, girls!!  (Click on the photos to see them up close!)

(Yep, I stuck myself in there as well because I wanted to join the party!)
I have to mention that over Shabbat I met a woman for the first time lo and behold she was rocking the zig-zag criss-cross!  What a treat and a bit of a surreal too!  I am so proud of you all!  Thank you everyone for your submissions and keep up the awesome work!  (And yes, you can still send in photos and I will add them to this post.)  Yay wrapping sisterhood solidarity!

Goin’ Colour Crazy!

I have been experimenting lately with combining many textures and colours with lots of layers and twists.  It’s the kind of fun that I highly recommend trying out!

Here it is in magenta, navy and tan:andrea grinberg wrapunzel

And in candy colours and stripes:

And in pastel salmon, blue and white!

I am loving this look, and find that it really stays put all day (of course, you have to be wearing the proper equipment underneath).  What do you think of it?

Do the Criss-cross!

I often get asked, “Do you ever get bored?  Do you ever run out of new ways to tie your scarves?”  The answer is, gratefully, “nope!”  Even if I  owned 10 scarves (believe me, I have quite a few more than that!), there would still be an infinite amount of tying options.

So here is a new style that I came up with yesterday!  It is surprisingly easy.  Who wants a tutorial?

And here is another variation on the criss-cross that I have tried, with only one scarf:

Black Gets Colourful!

I must say, that as much as I love wearing lots of colour, I do enjoy my basic blacks!  The ease and elegance of it is simply unmatched.  That being said, I wanted to wear black today and be colourful as well!  Here’s is a post about how I went about being colourful and wearing black too!

First, a beautiful jewel multi-toned scarf with a sparkly black accent sash:

Paired with the right accessories:

And a lovely outfit contrasted with a black top and belt:

I enjoyed what I wore today very much.  The colour was joyful, the silhouette was feminine yet comfortable, and the black was pulled together.  Shana tova!

Now tell us, what are some new combinations/experiments you have tried lately, and how did it go?

A Spiral Rose

Get ready to be wow-ed.  This wrap is not for the faint hearted!  After two days of moving, wearing an awful pretied, feeling totally grungy, I was just itching to do a beautiful wrap!  You can get excited for a tutorial as soon as I get my video camera set up 🙂

Yeah, I know.  Twists at the sides … over the top, and…

… twists at the back and then down the side!

I have to thank a VERY special for person for inspiring this wrap; she will know who she is once she sees it.  (Did I do that semicolon correctly?)  This wrap was done in the spirit of deep friendship and sisterhood, and represents the ties that can never be severed, regardless of distance, time, or circumstance.  Thank you, beautiful lady!  You are such a gift to me ❤

Here is a closeup of the side twist, as well as a shot from the back!

A Happy Ending

The beginning of August marked the end of the summer orchestra program that my husband and I have been directing.  We finished off with a ridiculously epic concert (the kids were INCREDIBLE… like, woa!) so an equally ridiculously epic scarf tie was needed since I was to be MC-ing the concert.

This tichel was wrapped similarly to the technique shown in this video.  Honestly, there were so many tails hanging around that I just tied and tucked them in randomly… and got lucky with the result!

Surprise yourself!

Yellow.  The colour that I long refused to wear.

I claimed that since it matched with my hair, I couldn’t pull it off because I would be “all one colour”.  Somehow, when I started covering my hair, I neglected to realize that since my hair colour would no longer be showing, this logic no longer applied.  Since covering my hair, I had always avoided yellow scarves and ran towards my favourite blues and greens.

Well, of course this logic was flawed, because my own “yellow” hair was no longer showing!  Therefore I would not be all one colour if I wore it.

Thanks to my mistakenly holding this scarf up to my face in a store (I was reaching for the blue), I have realized that yellows and golds are probably some the most beautiful colours for me to wrap over my hair!  I especially like this scarf because it is so big and soft… quite comfortable!  And of course, my “tichel tiara” made it look even more elegant.  I think this is one of my new favourites!

Lesson learned;  Surprise yourself!  🙂

The Wonder Scarf

I always appreciate scarves that make your wraps look much more intricate than they actually are.  Scarves that have multiple patterns and colours do this job very well as you can see in the following photos:

Yes, this is just one scarf, tied in the simplest long scarf wrap (see tutorial here).  A beautiful beaded pin finishes off the look and the final result is something that looks much more complicated than it actually is.  Yay!
