Zahava’s Gold Chignon

Zahava's Gold Chignon Wrapunzel
Zahava modelling the chignon

Zahava is one of the women that makes the Wrapunzel Fangroup so wonderful.  Her gentle smile, inspiring stories, beautiful style, and encouraging words are something that many of us look forward to every day.  We even named the Empress Circlet after her!  A few weeks ago she posted a new style; “Tichel Chignon” she called it.  Many of us tried to figure out how she did it and couldn’t get it!  So I just had to invite her over to make a tutorial together.  We got to spend a little time getting to know each other as well.  Beyond her quiet demeanor, Zahava is a proud mother of 11 children, and grandmother of over 20 (and counting, Gd willing!)  She just returned from a trip to Israel that her kids surprised her and her husband with for their anniversary.  Let’s all bask in her infectious glow, and learn how to tie the “Zahava’s Gold Chignon” together.

“Aren’t You Hot in That?!” How Hair Wrapping Can Help You Beat the Heat!

It is such a common question… and I don’t blame people for wondering when they see me in my long skirts, high neckline and sleeves.  How am I not roasting in the heat?  As someone that lived through four summers in Israel, I’ve learned quite a few things about dressing for hot weather.  Here is why I am not boiling under the sun, and why I actually may be cooler than someone wearing a fraction of the clothing:

Also, “What is that scarf on your head?”
It’s this one – called the Watercolor Dream – I’m in love!

Naomi Rose: Haircovering for Intense Workouts!

Hey Wrapunzelistas! I made this short video before going running yesterday. I’m no world-class athlete, but as a kid/teenager I was VERY active (ice skating, ballet, swimming, etc.) and I started running in middle school, working my way up over the years to a half-marathon in 2013 (fun fact – my husband proposed to me on our first 10-mile training run together!).

For serious workouts, whether it’s running, Zumba, hiking, African dance, or anything else, those of us who cover our hair need an extra dimension to our technique. A good workout tichel:

1) should be comfortable and breathable,
2) must NOT budge, EVER,
3) ideally would be something you feel good in, appearance-wise. I find that having workout clothes that I look forward to wearing (as opposed to feeling ugly in) can actually help me exercise more.

After lots of trial and error, this is my failsafe running tichel. I’ve also gone swimming like this, and worn it on a bike!

It’s a simple-but-sweet Israeli Tichel tie over the fabulous No-Slip Headband, and let me tell you, it won’t go ANYWHERE! I have yet to find the activity that will dislodge this wrap.

Do you have a favorite way to cover your hair for exercise?? Share it in the comments! We’d love to hear from you!!

Pin Tutorial!!

It’s all about the pins!

This one has been a long time coming!  Finally, a tutorial all about putting pins into your tichel!

Andddd what am I wearing on my head in the beginning/during the video?  Sometimes it’s best to just stick to what you love, and today I decided to wear comforting tichels and an accessory that I just know is totally “me”.  My favourite green pashmina, a gorgeous green sari sash, and the vintage beauty headband.  Such a happy day to be wearing this!

Lots of love, and happy pinning!  Enjoy the tutorial!!

Perfect Pleats! It’s all in the details!

Here is an incredible tutorial by Naomi Rose on how to do perfect pleats with your tichel.  This tutorial is for the perfectionist in all of us!  She breaks things down so simply!

This tutorial teaches us the beautiful technique of layering and pleating.  Now you can get exactly the colors that you want showing where you want them!  As Naomi Rose says in the video, you can use the technique briefly in your regular tichel ties for a little detail, or you can be as perfectionist as you like!

The Headband Secret Tutorial!

It’s long been talked about that headbands can add a beautiful layer to your headwrap with minimal bulk and almost zero effort… but I’ve never tried putting on 6 headbands at a time before!  Can you believe I’m only wearing one scarf in the photo below?  LOVE the result!

The Headband Secret Wrapunzel

On the Wrapunzel Store site, we call these babies “The Headband Secret”!  They’re perfect stretchy cotton and they don’t budge once in place!

Here’s the tutorial!

Layered Shira Tails Tutorial (and lots more exciting!!)

wrapunzel andrea grinberg

Hello lovelies!!  It’s a cold and sunny day here in Baltimore, and it’s the perfect weather for a double pashmina wrap!  Enter the Shira Tails!  This has been a well circulated wrap tutorial, but sometimes ladies have a little trouble looking at it because we took it randomly when meeting Shira at one of our shows!  So here is my layered version!

I am totally loving this wrap… it’s been too long since I’ve broken out my favourite Blue and Black Midnight Lakeshore Bliss scarf (one day I’ll tell y’all the story behind this tichel… it’s pretty incredible!)  I paired it with a black pashmina and our (surprise!) new lace sash!  It’s not online yet but you can bet they will go crazy when we have them up for you!  This is just a taste 😛

And just because I felt like it, I decided to experiment with adding our new Celtic Braid headband… WOA!  It just took this tichel from cozy fancy to wedding worthy!  I only wore it long enough to snap these photos, because it was just a little too fancy for teaching music to kidlets, but I know I’ll be wearing it again soon when the occasion arrives!

Wishing you all a beautiful day, filled with lots of light and connection!  May you get to appreciate something new, and share it with someone else!  It’s such a pleasure to know you all ❤
Love, Andrea

Tutorial: Olive Grove aka Layered Waterfall Twist!

As requested by many of you, but specifically for one special woman – you know who you are!

This is such a versatile tie using the “Waterfall Twist” technique!  Make sure you are comfortable with the original technique before trying this one!  Keep in mind as well that depending on how you tie the knot, you will either end up with the fringe father forward or farther back.  Both work!  Check out the photos to see the different ways this technique can work out – it can go super fancy!   For the original look, you will need a shimmery and 2 in 1 in the same colours.  Also experiment with where you tie the knot – it changes the whole look!  Higher up on the crown of your head give a more “crown-like” look  (ie the navy in the tutorial).

Here is the tutorial!

D.B. Detailed Tutorial!!

I’m in Jerusalem!  And of course the first tutorial I make in the beautiful neighbourhood of Nachlaot is… a detailed version of the same video I made the last time we were staying in Nachlaot two years ago!  Here is how to do the Double Braid (the DB!) with 2 in 1s, with the ends tucked in!
