Today’s Special: The Classic Braid

I’ve found myself in a bit of a “need to always create something new!” hair wrapping rut.  It seems that in my quest to create fresh and inspiring hair wraps, I have forgotten to continue rocking the classic “Andrea” wraps that I have created in the past.  Also, most of you on this new site haven’t even seen these wraps yet!  So, today I decided to wear a classic single braid with a cute butterfly pin.  This wrap was one of my first tutorials that I made, and you can find it here.

That’s a Wrap!

After a lovely day, my hubby and I going out tonight to say goodbye to a close friend who is leaving town.  Here is what I’m wearing on my head!

This is actually just one gauzy long scarf (just one?!  Yes, I’m going casual) – wrapped in the way that I showed in my recent pashmina video.  Finished it off with some silver hoop earrings and I’m ready to go!  Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

Pashmina Love!

Hello Everyone!  Today I am rocking a pashmina scarf, wrapped in a “Regal Wrap” style.

Many of you have written, requesting a tutorial specifically devoted to pashminas, especially on how to make them look less bulky.  Bli neder, I will be making a video tutorial all about pashimas tomorrow!  Today I decided to experiment with some styles in preparation for the video, and here is what I wore out of the house from morning til night!

I hope everyone had a lovely day ❤

Hats hats hats!

Yes, I know this site is all about scarf wrapping, but I have been meaning to make a video about hats for a while, as many of you have requested it.  I don’t wear them often, so therefore I have some questions for YOU!  Fellow hats wearers, what are your hat tips and tricks?  I do have a number of hats that I wear when running out of the house and/or when I want a change from scarves (or extra warmth).  Here are some that I’ve worn recently!

And now, here are some hat questions for you:
– Is it possible to eyeball hats and know how they will look without uncovering your hair in the store (goes for online as well)?
– What do you wear underneath, if anything?
– How do you make the back of your head/bun part look good (aka not shlumpy)?
– Do you show any hair at the front?  I find that I really don’t like the way that I look when covering all my hair in my hats… so I show a very minimal amount (fine according to the Jewish law I follow).  However, I personally am not comfortable doing this, which is why I tend to avoid hats.  Advice?
– Accessories?
– Any recommendations on where to buy hats?

Also, please share your favourite hats!!

Bring On the Colour!

Brrrrr!  It’s cold outside where I’m living, so, armed with inspiration from today’s “Lady Wrap Star”, Elizabeth (see post here), I decided to don a bright square scarf, add another bright long scarf and finish it off with twists!  My awesome husband also took these photos, which resulted in much nicer shots than the ones I take of myself 🙂

I hope that everyone had a lovely weekend and is looking forward to a productive week filled with beautiful moments, surprises, achievements, special connections and of course, gorgeous head wraps!

Today’s Wrap

I’m feeling colourful today!

wrapunzel colour scrunchie silk scarf

Yes, that’s a scrunchie that you see holding this silk scarf in place.  First time wearing a scrunchie since the age of… 8?  Well, with this scarf, I think it looks cute as a side “ponytail”!  What do you think?

Here is a view from the side:

We want “Lady Wrapstars”!

The search is on!  We are looking to showcase other faces!  This site is going to be geared towards women from all sorts of backgrounds, colours, faiths, shapes, styles, and personalities.  So… do you love hair wrapping?  Or does someone you know wear fabulous, creative hair coverings?  Send an email with photos and we will make a feature post starring our guest “wrap star”.

Some other updates:
~ If you haven’t already, check out the Wrapunzel Facebook Page and give it a “like” to receive updates and give your input!
~ If you want to write to me privately, my email is andreaesthergrinberg@gmail.com – drop me a line and say hello!

QUESTIONS FOR YOU:
~ What do you think, so far?  How do you like the layout of the site, the archives from andreagrinberg.com (are they easy to look through?), the accessibility, sharing, photos etc.?
~ How do you like the posting style?  I know there haven’t been any substantial posts yet other than the hair wrapping workshop, but what do you think of the daily wrap?  Is it too much to do daily?  Do you think I should do it once every other day instead?
~ Anything else?  Many of you have already submitted great ideas about what you would like to see on here… but if you haven’t asked your question or given your ideas yet, now is the time!
~  Do any of you know of any forums where I should be sharing this site?  I know there are a lot of hair loss support groups out there, as well fashion forums, and other faith groups.  However I don’t know where to start looking.  Please, share your suggestions with me.  There are for sure many people out there that could really use Wrapunzel.

… and of course, the daily head wrap:

For this style, I wrapped a long striped scarf around my head, with one tail longer than the other.  Then I tied a sparkly black sash around my head, and wrapped the longer tail around my bun, tying it to the shorter end.  A pewter sunflower pin tied the look together 🙂

Wedding Wrap :D

It’s not every day that one of your best friends gets married!  Yesterday I had the joy of attending the wedding of my dear friend, who also happened to be the shomeret (Jewish equivalent of maid of honour) in my wedding!

Of course, for such a special wedding, I needed to create something special to wear on my head.  Here it is!

Here is a slightly better view from on top:

To do this wrap, I took two long scarves (pink and sparkly black… pink is one of the bride’s favourite colours!) and wrapped them asymmetrically around my head so the tails hung one longer than the other.  Then I took the longer tails and wrapped them around my head, tying them to the shorter ones.  This look was completed with a beautiful headband, that was actually given to me by the beautiful bride before my wedding day.  Mazal tov!

White for Shabbat!

I love wearing white on Shabbat!  Here is what I wore on my head for Friday night:

This is a very simple wrap!  It’s one white, long textured scarf (I have seen ones like these in east Indian neighbourhoods used as shawls).  With it, I did a “royal twist” and added this peacock pin, which is becoming one of my favourite accessories!

Thursday night! (and FYI)

For those of you that have asked about how-to videos, there is a list of pages on the right sidebar which is all of my 2012 content from youtube and my previous site.  The same links are located in dropdown menus/submenus right beside the “home” button, above.  You’ll find tons of videos and photo tutorials, as well as thoughts, experiences and FAQs.  As well, hank you so much for all the new suggestions so far!  I’m really looking forward to making them happen so keep ’em coming!

tichel scarf flower silk hair head wrap

Here is the scarf that I put on tonight!  (Please note, I will likely not be posting this many updates in the future… I’m just super excited about this new site!)  I was meeting some very important friends, one of whom is getting married this weekend – mazal tov! Here I am wearing a medium silk scarf (with the non-slip velvet headband underneath, of course), and a beautiful flower pin which was given to me by a friend.  My earrings are from the open marketplace in Jerusalem 🙂

Thursday’s Wrap ~*~

scarf head wrap tichel pin layered

Today I am wearing a long turquoise/black/green scarf wrapped turban-style (or what I call a “regal wrap”).  I layered a grey cotton with silver threads scarf on top and wrapped the ends up together.  To finish it off, a peacock feather pin given to me by a very special friend and silver hoop earrings!

Welcome Welcome!

I am happy to share this new site, which will be about everything to do with hair wrapping!  The “hair wrapping how-to” section was getting much too crowded over on andreagrinberg.com, plus I have many ideas on new places that I want to take this art.

You can look forward to:
– Almost daily “what I’m wearing on my head” posts! (hopefully this won’t ever get repetitive.)
– Inspirational photos and stories of other women and how they cover their hair!
– Frequent Q&A and personalized troubleshooting
– As well as the usual how-to videos, photo inspiration and hair covering thoughts that have always been there!

What would YOU like to see here?  Let me know and I will do the best I can to feature it!

There are so many women that cover their hair with scarves for various reasons.  This site is a place to share and learn about this beautiful art together.

Here is what I’m wearing on my head today:  Silk scarf with flower pin 🙂
