The Tichel Makes the Outfit!

You know what’s so cool about hair wrapping?  An outfit that on its own would be mismatched looks incredibly coordinated when paired with the right head scarf!  Check it out!

Grey, purple, and sky blue? You wouldn't think it works, but with this tichel, it's the perfect combination!

Bold Patterns!

Here is some outfit inspiration for all of you!  Who says you can’t wear patterns in our outfit and on your head at the same time?  This skirt is VERY bold for my normal wardrobe, and I usually just wear it with a black top and simple wrap.  Never realized it could look so good with more colour added!

One Scarf Many Ways Part 2!

You loved seeing one scarf tied in multiple ways in the last post… so here is another!  This green silk scarf was a gift from a woman who makes them (I posted about it in one of my first Wrapunzel posts) and it often makes an appearance on my head!  This day was full of bike riding so I had to take my tichel off and tie it again a few times… here goes!

The first tie of the day!

The next tie was an experiment… I have seen gorgeous ties with lots of detail at the top and wanted to try it!  This one was beautiful and I got a lot of compliments, but I personally feel like it didn’t suit my personality and face shape.  Hope that someone else is inspired by it!

And last but not least, I needed to tie something on my head quickly when I got home at night… here is a simple wrap using this stunning silk scarf:

Wedding Wow!

MAZAL TOV MY BROTHER GOT MARRIED YESTERDAY!!  (Well, two days ago if you don’t go by the Jewish definition of day which starts at sundown.)

Yes, his wife is already lined up to be a Lady Wrap Star!

Here are some unofficial photos what I wore!  Aqua is the bride’s favourite colour 🙂

Two Outfit Ideas for You!

Hello lovely ladies!  Here are two similar outfits that I have worn that I thought you’d like!  It’s wonderful how wearing a scarf with multiple colours allows you to incorporate those colours into your outfit, and instead of clashing, they now match!

What do you think?  How has covering your hair inspired what you wear?

Skirt = Headwrap?! Believe it!

So… you all know Rivka Malka Perlman, right?

If you haven’t heard of her, run (don’t walk!) to her website right now.  This woman is one of my greatest inspirations, and I am proud to say, now also a close friend.

ANYWAY – she recently gave me a stunning teal wrap skirt, and I had been itching to wear it, so I decided to save it for a special occasion.  Last Shabbat seemed like the perfect opportunity.

But then the weather was FREEZING!  Much too cold to wear such a fluttery skirt.  I thought the skirt may have to stay in my closet and wait until the spring.

But Shabbat is a time of miracles, so I had an idea and did what any proud head scarf wrapper would do; I turned it into a tichel!

Bada boom!
Bada boom!

And it subsequently became one of the most beautiful tichels I have ever tied!

I know.  And all this was done without damaging the skirt – so it can be worn both ways.

Maybe Rivka Malka and I should start marketing skirts as tichels!  Who wants a tutorial??

A Sparkly Thank You!

A very generous reader all the way across the ocean thought of me while shopping, and sent me this stunning beaded band in the mail!  It’s such a perfect hair wrapping accessory; I decided to wear it for the holiday of Sukkot paired with a green, flowered scarf.  Thank you!!!

(Yep, these photos were snapped pre makeup and earring almost falling out – there was so much cooking and running around to do before the beginning of the holiday!)

The dress I wore was a gift from my husband!  It is one of those “covers all” dresses that I don’t need to wear anything else over in order to be comfortably modest.  It’s from the vintage section of etsy (very affordable!) and is perfect for the nippy weather!

Dark Warmth

Sheer, jewel-toned knitted cotton, and patterned, dark green silk.  What a beautiful combination!

In terms of what I wore with it, my 13 year old self would be scandalized!  When I was a teenager, I had very strict ideas about what matched (don’t ask me where I got these rules from).  Dark shirt grey with black pants?  Never!  Complimentary colours together in one outfit?  Never!  Needless to say, my grey skirt, dark teal shirt and warm jean jacket would have never been allowed out of the house!

But times have changed!  Here is the dark yet warm yet neutral outfit that I paired with the wrap!  (Excuse my “Zoolander” face – I haven’t figured out the timer on my camera yet!)

Pure Light

This past weekend, the Jewish people celebrated Yom Kippur.  There is so much to say about this holiday (it’s my favourite – wrote about that here) but in terms of hair covering, many people choose to wear all white.  I found that wearing all white with a white tichel is a challenge – it’s easy to enter bathrobe and towel zone!  Here is what I came up with!

The wrap consisted of two scarves and one lace sash (thank you hubby!)  They were layered and twisted over my head (for the second day of the holiday I did two twists – I liked that more!) and tied in the back:

I found beautiful light and sparkly earrings to match, as well as a big gold flower to hold the wrap together.  (This was the only colour in the whole ensemble.)

The white clothes were a beautiful cotton dress, with a white shell and ruffled white skirt underneath.

And of course, white shoes!

For those of you that celebrated, I hope that you had a cleansing, cathartic, and connected day.  Much love to ALL of my readers.  You are such an inspiration!

Function meets Fashion!

It’s always a challenge to find hair wraps and clothing that allow me to live life with freedom of movement, while remaining dignified and elegant.  Believe me ladies, I know how hard it is!

Here is my latest helmet-friendly cycling wrap (aka no volume at back):

And the outfit that went with it!  (Bicycling, office, cello, and home friendly!)

For those of you celebrating, I wish you an elevating, clarifying, connected, inspirational, cathartic, and all around incredible Yom Kippur.  Kol tuv!

Black Gets Colourful!

I must say, that as much as I love wearing lots of colour, I do enjoy my basic blacks!  The ease and elegance of it is simply unmatched.  That being said, I wanted to wear black today and be colourful as well!  Here’s is a post about how I went about being colourful and wearing black too!

First, a beautiful jewel multi-toned scarf with a sparkly black accent sash:

Paired with the right accessories:

And a lovely outfit contrasted with a black top and belt:

I enjoyed what I wore today very much.  The colour was joyful, the silhouette was feminine yet comfortable, and the black was pulled together.  Shana tova!

Now tell us, what are some new combinations/experiments you have tried lately, and how did it go?

Hot Day Wear!

It’s hoootttt outside!  Many ladies often ask me, “aren’t you boiling in your long skirts, sleeves, and head wrap?”  The answer is, “Yep, it’s hot, but I am much cooler than someone wearing short shorts and a tank top!”

How can this be?

The answer is simple: look at the Bedouins and those that lived outside in extremely hot weather.  They all wore light colours, long, draped fabrics, and had their heads covered.  Light fabrics reflect the sun away from your body much better than skin does!  Skin fries under the sun; not only does this create health problems, but it also raises one’s body temperature like nothing else.  A long, breezy skirt is much cooler than constricting shorts.  Same with fluttery sleeves!  As for the hair covering, I find that when I wear light fabrics on my head, I sweat much less than when I wore my hair down (sticky!) and got my scalp burned.

So here is my hot day hair wrap and outfit!  The shirt is light, loose cotton.  The skirt is a wrap skirt from Jerusalem, and the scarves are cotton/silk 🙂

Breezy Flowers

I hadn’t worn my favourite gold scarf for a while, so it was time to break it out!  I did a high wrap around my bun and then looped the ends around, fastening them in a single knot at the side.  I added an antique pin for extra security (doesn’t hurt the eyes, either!)  Later on in the day, I added the turquoise sash to add extra interest.

For the outfit, I wore a dress that is often hard to match, but lo and behold, has orange, gold and a bit of turquoise in it!  I wore a longer, swingy skirt underneath because I was going to be playing cello (aka long skirts are necessary!), an cream shell, gold earrings, and lace flats.  All in all, it was comfortable, modest, beautiful, and feminine!  This will likely be one of my new favourite outfit/tichel combos!

Elegant & Earthy (aka clothing post #1!)

You asked, and I have listened!  Here is the first of hopefully many posts where clothing matching suggestions are included.   Many ladies shy away from anything other than solid colours when covering; I know I used to!  However, this need not be.  As long as you use the scarf to pull out and enhance colours of your outfit, the scarf can actually allow you to wear MORE colour combinations than you previously would dare.  I am looking forward to showing you how this is possible as I post more clothing advice.

But I digress.  Here is outfit #1!  Often for my outfits, I pick the scarf first (because obviously that’s what I love choosing the most), but in this instance, the shirt was one I had been wanting to wear for a while, so that was picked first.  The brown skirt and layering shirt were easy choices, and the orange and gold scarf matched the shirt perfectly!  Even though the scarf has silver threads in it, the gold earrings and pin were a good match.  I could have easily added a green sash to the scarf wrap as well.

You may recognize the scarf as the background curtain of many of the tutorial videos.  Remember?
andrea grinberg wrapunzel tichelThis scarf was delegated as a curtain because I previously thought it was too thick to wrap well.  Since moving, the pashmina “curtains” were taken down, and I decided to try wrapping it on my head!  I don’t think this will going back to being a curtain any time soon 🙂

The scarf was wrapped in a basic pashmina regal wrap.  Here is the result!

I hope you are all doing well and having a lovely weekend!
