Sari Not Sorry!

MAIN_IMG_0429-800x5331

Well, ladies, #wrapunzeledinsaris was a whole lot of fun and we absolutely LOVED seeing everybody’s colorful creations! Whether a sari scarf or sash was used, each participant exhibited such creativity and care… The ways these unique scarves were used is seemingly endless and this collage is one of our favorites yet! Do you need inspiration or ideas for how to use your sari scarf? Check out the gallery below!

For this week’s challenge, we’re revisiting an old favorite. A style that Andrea first developed before Wrapunzel was even a store! It is easy and elegant and seems to look good on everyone… Check out the reveal video below to find out more!

Zig-Zag with Sari Scarves? Oh, YES!

FINAL2Here is a style that I (Rachel) have been wearing for a while and with our current Challenge of the Week theme being sari scarves, there has never been a better time to share the tutorial with you all! Its origins were a few months back, during a wrapping phase of mine that was particularly zig-zag heavy. Experimentation and trying different scarf combinations led to a peculiarly obvious question- why had I never tried this style with sari scarves before?!

I proceeded forward with caution, concerned with how easy the task would be to accomplish, but was pleasantly surprised at the results these unique scarves produced! Using saris with contrasting colors creates a look rather dramatic and vibrant. With similar hues and patterns, a  more subtle look is achieved. I never grow tired with experimenting with them and to be honest, think I prefer each type equally!

Anyway, sari lovers, rejoice!  I have finally made a tutorial for this incredible look and you can find it below:

One Scarf, Many Ways!

Let’s start this post off with a bang, shall we?

wraptile

Regular participants in our fangroup might recognize Mansikka up there and BOY did she ever take this week’s Challenge of the Week seriously! Not remembering the names of each of these styles, she came up with her own hilarious monikers and this impressive display  of tichel-wrapping skill. It’s so amazing to see this many styles all wrapped with the same scarf! Thanks for sharing them with us, Mansikka!!!

Some wrappers are comfortable taking the same scarf and wearing it multiple times in the same week, but for many others, the idea might feel extremely limiting. It can also be easy to fall into a rut and wear specific scarves in the same ways, so in this regard, we all had to flex our wrapping muscles with this challenge, for sure! A huge amount of thought and creativity went into the photos you’ll see in this week’s collage and each contributor truly does deserve a pat on the back for what she accomplished. You all totally rocked it, ladies!

Thank you so much to all who participated and don’t forget to scroll to the bottom of this post for this week’s Challenge of the Week reveal video!

This week’s challenge is the celebration of a very specific type of scarf. One that was first introduced to the world of head-wrapping by Andrea, well before Wrapunzel was even a store! No two are alike and our fans just can’t seem to get enough of them! You probably know what’s coming… Check out the reveal video below:

“Wrapunzel Under Wraps” part 2 – Very Short Hair

Many of you have seen our first “Under Wraps” video and infographic from last summer:

Shaper Comparison

Both became popular very quickly, as many women had been requesting clarification of the differences between shapers and what exactly goes on underneath wraps, for some time! However, for women with little-to-no hair,  these were not accurate representations of how our Essential Tools might work for them. Most Shapers give quite a different look when a bun or pony tail isn’t present underneath and until now, we didn’t have a proper visual guide to illustrate this.

Without further ado, may we present both our newest infographic and “Under Wraps” tutorial, showcasing all four Wrapunzel shapers, when worn over very short hair!

It IS Easy Being Green!

OLIVEGROVE

Here it is, ladies! Take a few minutes to scroll through the largest gallery of green head coverings we’ve ever had on the blog! Our Challenge of the Week participants sure do love the color of Miss Piggy’s love and submitted a near record-breaking number of photos to prove it!

Bask in their awesomeness! Lime green? Check. Mint green? Check. Forest, Kelly and Chartreuse? Check, check, check… the list goes on!

We’d like to thank all of you that participated and help make these challenges so very incredible. You ladies rock!

Extreme One Scarf Challenge and Challenge of the Week!

20160114_153546
Hi, Justine!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: One of the things that I (Rachel) love about our weekly Wrapunzel challenges is how they encourage creativity and for women to step out of their comfort zones, all while having fun with wearing tichels (or hijabs, veils, etc)! Occasionally, we might find ourselves in circumstances where we have to be flexible with how we choose to wrap our heads. This can happen during Challenge of the Week when the color or theme chosen isn’t a personal favorite. Perhaps, our favorite scarf is in the wash or that perfect outfit we pictured beforehand just doesn’t look right with the scarves and accessories chosen. A travesty, for sure! 😉

One fangroup member, Justine, recently had a trying experience with wrapping and truly embraced her situation to its fullest! Take a moment to read about it below:

20160117_165039
The infamous vacation scarf!

“On my recent tropical holiday to visit my parents, I didn’t bring any scarves. I had just started wrapping part time for fashion, and didn’t want to waste precious suitcase space for something frivolous.

But once I was there, I found myself yearning to wrap my head. My mom had a scarf in her closet and she let me borrow it. I have had fun finding all sorts of different ways to wear it. The distinctive ombre made for interesting opportunities! I also really enjoyed posting pictures on the Wrapunzel Fangroup page and getting so much positive feedback. Thanks for the love!”

Justine was gracious enough to share her daily creations with us and you won’t believe the number of different looks she achieved with just one scarf! Check them out below:

Talk about turning lemons into lemonade! How inspiring!!!

One of the Challenge of the Week ideas we’ve been been toying with for some time is creating multiple different looks with the same scarf, just like Justine has done here! Think of it as an extreme #onescarfchallenge! edit: Feel free to accessorize away and combine your choice with other scarves. Choosing just one and creating a few looks with it throughout the week can be the ultimate exercise in flexibility and I am so excited to give it a go! Something tells me this will be a good one…

Would you like to participate in this unique challenge? Head on over to the Wrapunzel Fangroup and share your pictures using the hashtag #wrapunzeledinone. If you would also like them featured on next week’s blog post, make sure to also post them in the comments on the pinned post at the top of the Fangroup page, so we know to share them. Your Pleatin’ Heart

“If at first you don’t succeed, Try, try, try again.”
Thomas H. Palmer

Well, hello, ladies! It’s Sunday, which means that we’ve got another spectacular Challenge of the Week gallery to share with you all! For many, this was the most difficult challenge yet, however, each and every one of us truly made it our own and EVERYONE shined!

Despite the technical skill required, practicing the art of pleating can feel overwhelming to some. Learning which scarves work best and how exactly to place each fold takes time and persistence- an ability that rarely comes naturally. However, even if you don’t feel like a master pleater today, that doesn’t mean that you might not become one tomorrow! Experimenting and learning new techniques in can teach us so much and actively contributes to improving our skill levels over time. Try to think about it that, the next time you find yourself struggling with a new wrap or scarf!

Thank you ALL for participating in #wrapunzeledinpleats and don’t forget to scroll to the bottom of this post for the announcement of next week’s challenge!

For this week’s theme, we’ve chosen a color that’s beloved my many. One of the colors of Tu B’shvat and one that is inspired by the trees! During this time of year, many have to look long and hard to find its presence in nature… Have you guessed it yet? Check out the reveal video below to find out!

What About my Bling Bling Bling?

BLING3

Wow, wow, WOW! If sheer volume of submissions is any indication, Wrapunzel ladies sure do like bling! We had so much fun last week experimenting with shiny accessories and blingy scarves, and have even got the photos to prove it!

If you need inspiration on how to wear tichel pins, clips or headbands, check out the incredible gallery below! Also, don’t forget to scroll to the bottom of this post to learn our theme for next week’s challenge!

Bonus: Somewhere within this collage is a chicken donning bling! Can you find the hidden fowl?

Our theme for this week is one that many Wrapunzelistas find challenging. A style that we might get more questions about than any other! Our hope for those of you who find it challenging, is that this week will inspire you to think out of the box and try something new! Check out the reveal video below:

Layered Artsy Side Swoop!

IMG_1430
#wrapunzeledinbrown

Here is a look that I’ve been having a lot of fun with lately! It’s formal, dramatic and fun, and is an excellent tie for pashminas with fancy borders (Especially the Shine On, seen here)! Adding a 2-in-1 and Shiny-licious to the mix gives a nice variety of texture and added interest. My favorite part of this style, though, is the unique “side swoop,” which can give the wearer the feeling of hair, without hanging tails!

*Please note that this style requires the use of pins and is not for the faint of heart! It is definitely more suited to more experienced wrappers and those who don’t mind the wearing the weight of multiple scarves.

You might recognize this version from our Most Popular Tichels video!

After many requests, I was finally able to film a tutorial, so without further ado, may I present to you the Layered Artsy Side Swoop!

#wrapunzelcomforted (and next week’s challenge)

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth,
for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire:
it is the time for home.”
– Edith Sitwell

What do you think of when you hear the word “comfort”? Is it the process of easing grief or restoring a sense of well-being? Consoling, perhaps? Or more of the physical, like wearing your most comfortable pair of slippers, relaxing in a reclining chair or wrapping your head in your most worn scarf?

No matter what your own personal definition might entail, I think we all can agree that comfort is a feeling and with this week’s Challenge of the Week, we’ve seen more interpretations of that feeling than ever before! Turbans, tails, braids and buns… the diversity of these tichels seem to match the diversity of the women themselves, each a reflection of our own individual definitions of comft!

Check out the collage below to see some of the ways that women have wrapped their heads in comfort and be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to learn our theme for next week’s challenge!

The title for our next Challenge of the Week is inspired by hip hop culture! For those of you who are fans, Jay Z and Jermaine Dupri coined the phrase, but in the years since, it has become well known, even outside of this music genre. Think you have it figured out? Watch the reveal video below to find out!

Pretty in Pink!

PINK1

Blossoms will run away,
Cakes reign but a Day,
But Memory like Melody
Is pink Eternally

Emily Dickinson.

Pink week in Wrapunzel-land was a challenging one for me (Rachel), but for many others, it gave them a chance to truly shine with one of their favorite colors! Today’s  gallery is full of beautiful, blushing shades and seemingly endless inspiration. Thank you ALL for your participation!

Back when I was in art school, we performed a very interesting experiment during our Color Theory class. Using huge solid-colored drop cloths, we created small “rooms” to study the psychological affects of color. In these make-shift spaces the occupants would be totally surrounded by a single color on all four walls, ceiling and floor. We would then spend a predetermined amount of time in these rooms documenting our feelings and what we observed from those around us. An interesting challenge for those beginning to academically learn about color! (scroll past the first collage for more)

When it came to the pink room, the pale hue chosen seemed to have a somewhat calming effect on both my peers and myself. The freshman group of art school students, with our high-capacity sponge-like minds, were now quite mellow and relaxed, which was quite an unusual sight for my creative group of friends and I!

It was later that I also learned of the shade known as “drunk-tank pink,” which is sometimes used in prisons as an attempt to subdue inmates. Another instance of this effect is how one sports team’s coach (who happened to be a psychology major) had the visiting team locker room painted pink  to mess with the minds of their opponents. Who knew?! I certainly didn’t and was shocked to find out that this color, which has become a sign of love and femininity, can hold a seemingly ulterior motive!

How about pink headwear? Can wrapping oneself in the color pink be a calming influence to those around us?  What have you observed about pink with yourself or loved ones? I’d love to hear about it in the comments, but before doing that, check out this week’s challenge below!

We’ve been wanting to do this week’s Challenge of the Week theme for some time! Coming from a calming color, to one that reminds me of home, seems like a natural transition. Take a look at the reveal video:

May The Force Be With You! *Out of This World Tichels!*

Where were you when you first saw Star Wars? I was a little girl, soon after the release of Return of the Jedi in 1983. It was this first viewing, when I was young and impressionable, where the entire world of sci-fi films opened up to me, and I began to develop a lifelong love of all things Star Wars!

There are plenty of other Wrapunzelistas who feel the same and with the recent release of The Force Awakens, we’ve seen an influx of Star Wars-inspired tichels that are mind blowingly cool!

Adina, Miri, Kathleen and Carie, sporting Princess Leia’s most iconic look!

The creativity we see in tichel-tying is seemingly endless and many wrappers love to use this medium for expressing both their passions and hobbies. Star Wars, as illustrated here, is no exception!

“Help me, ObiWan Kenobi, youre my only hope!”

I mean, seriously, how cool is this look that Jessica came up with?!

11165251_10103442657852923_5553551368736766613_n
“The force is strong with this one.”

Naomi, a fangroup member, truly went above and beyond, experimenting with various techniques, before developing her own version of Princess Leia-like Cloud City braids. This one is just begging for a tutorial, am I right?!

But that’s not all- Another member, Robin, expertly crafted our favorite princess’ braids from the final scene in A New Hope:

A beautiful princess. Absolutely incredible!

Not all Star Wars wraps have been influenced by the film’s beloved female lead. Many women have gotten their inspiration from other characters, such as Chewbacca, Darth Vader and R2D2!

Yasmine, Sam, Jana, Lila and another one of Sam’s, all looking excellent!

What fun! While these wraps might not be everyday wear for most, they certainly are fun for a night out or even Purim!

Happy wrapping and remember… “the Force will be with you, always!”

Wrapunzel’s Best of 2015!

Hi, ladies! I had such a great time taking a stroll down memory lane this week, while reviewing my favorite tichels of 2015 and hope that you did, as well! As many wrappers know, whether you’ve been wearing headscarves for a week, a month or a year+, each individual wrapper’s style and technique can evolve over time. It’s fun looking back to see  how far we’ve come!

This week’s collage is full of so much creativity and beauty!  The process that each women took while choosing their favorites, led to much introspection and I’ve included some of the fangroup member’s thoughts here. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have!

To join in next week, check out the directions at the bottom of this post. Thank you everyone for your wonderful year-end submissions!

Emma
It was a beautiful journey for me to be in this group. Though I see a several of my faces have been ‘shaped’ (oval, rounded, box) through variety of colours, scarves and shaper. But there is one remain, the smile. It reminds me the diversity of the cultures, histories and memories that have been shared among of us. But, there is one remain the same; the compassionate of each other. May the New Year 2016 grant us more compassion, strength and kindness. We are so beautiful when we love each other. Thank You Wrapunzel! – Emma S.
Judy Silkoff
I chose this one over others that were more exciting or involved more scarves because to me it represents what the essence of hair wrapping is – one beautiful scarf, elegantly wrapped, with the right ‘foundation’ underneath can make you feel like a million dollars, transform the way you feel about yourself, carry yourself and project yourself to others. Thank you Wrapunzel for this gift! – Judy S.
Katherine Bartlett
“I started wrapping this year and at first it was really hard for me to give up having my hair down. I was so used to doing different things with my hair everyday that I didn’t feel like myself without it. But after I learned you could do amazing things with wraps, now I feel like that expresses myself better and I am following Torah too! Wrapping makes me feel so much better about myself now.” -Katherine B.

For this week’s challenge, we’ve chosen a color that’s a tricky one for many. One with a complex history in both fashion, design and culture. A color that seemingly evolves with the times. Bruce Springsteen sung a song with this color in the title! Have you guessed it yet? Find out in the video below:

Wrapunzeled in Lace!

Hi, it’s Rachel here and I must say that when we chose this past week’s theme for our Challenge of the Week (COTW), I was not as excited as I had been during weekly challenges of the past. While lace certainly is beautiful (and there are many women who wear it oh, so effortlessly!), I have never felt that it was really “me,” which led to nervousness about how I would be able to participate in #wrapunzeledinlace.  (keep scrolling down to continue)

” I love how these weekly themes challenge me to get away from my comfort zone and try different things, even if they’re not exactly radical.” – Judy S. (fangroup member)

As Judy so eloquently stated, these challenges were designed to help encourage us to wrap outside of our comfort zones, try something new and feed our inner creativity, all at the same time. While there is no one technique, color or texture that works for every single woman and her unique beauty (What’s simple to one, might be challenging to the next!), learning through experimentation helps refine our style and can sometimes lead to the discovery of a new favorite; one which might not have been otherwise revealed!

This week, our fangroup had many women who, like myself, enjoyed seeing others wrap with these deliciously delicate fabrics, yet were not fans of wearing lace themselves. Despite this, each participant gave it their all, which was truly a pleasure to see! Experienced lace-wearers and newbies, all sharing ideas and creativity, side-by-side. The beauty of the Wrapunzel community was so very evident to us all!

While I can’t speak for all of those who struggled with this particular challenge, what I can tell you is this: I have officially out-grown my bizarre, self-induced lace-phobia and will definitely be adding it to my wraps more frequently! However, if it weren’t for my participation in our Challenge of the Week, I would have likely remained in my own little lace-free bubble, sticking to my relatively “safe” tichels and not having the guts to try such a gorgeous, feminine fabric, to be sure! Thanks for the inspiration, ladies!

For this coming week’s Challenge of the Week, we’ve decided on a theme inspired by a specific fangroup member (Thanks, Rachel C.D.!). One that will honor growth, change, creativity and celebrate the upcoming New Year. But most of all, it will honor each woman’s beauty and individuality! To see what I mean, check out the video below:

A New Method for Pleating

10658895_10153556736603145_3348937218368585548_o

Hi ladies, it’s Rachel here and I’m super excited to be able to share this brand new tutorial with you today! Many of you have probably seen Naomi Rose’s incredible video called Perfect Pleating, where, using painstaking detail, she shows us how to create the most perfect pleats ever (I’m not even exaggerating!) with step-by-step instruction. Her video is a must-watch for tichel wearers, yet despite Naomi’s meticulous attention to detail, many women still find creating pleats to be a challenging task. Until somewhat recently, I was included in that group and through experimentation with various ties, have come up with an alternative method to pleating, which I’m hoping will be helpful for some of you, who might be struggling like I have!

Like Naomi’s, this method will work if you need one pleat or many, but is not compatible with the One-scarf Zig-Zag wrap. You can check it out right here:

Have you developed your own method to creating pleats? What works for you? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments below!
