Lady Wrap Star Yiskah!

Hi my name is Yiskah and I’m a Sephardic Jew. My family had lost their identity during the Spanish Inquisition, but kept traditions that led us to begin to question things. After tracing our heritage and DNA, and speaking with my Grandmother before she passed, we learned so much that had been hidden for far too long, and it saddened me to the depths of my soul. I made it a point to teach my children about the Sephardic side of our family and the history of what happened to us.

My priorities are G-d, my family and our synagogue. I’m married to an Ashkenazi Rabbi, and I have 4 sons and a daughter. I love to sew, dance, sing, study and paint. And I help guide the women in my community.

I first started covering my hair probably in 2018 and began to fully cover in 2020. My little Sister Emily gave me my first shaper, the Wrapunzel Signature Shaper, and directed me to Wrapunzel.

I often match my scarfs to my outfits and not the other way around. I am proud of being a Sephardic Jew, and try to keep along the lines of my heritage, keeping my tichel tying along those lines so that those styles may never be lost again. My favorite colors are fall colors – burgundy, brown, greens, nudes and navy blue.

When I began to cover it was mostly on Shabbat, and as time passed, I didn’t feel like myself if i wasn’t covered . Since I began to cover full time, I have peace and I feel calm. My wraps are truly my crown, and I’m treated like a queen, even by those who don’t know me, when I have them on.

Wearing my Tichel reminds me of who I am at all times, and lets others know as well. It gives the respect that is due to G-d and my husband, and I pray it sets a standard for my children, as well as those around me. We have a saying  and it goes like this, “Someone who doesn’t know their worth doesn’t know how precious they are, and doesn’t know how to safekeep it.”

My favorite Tichels are the Petalsoft Scarf, the Lakeshore Bliss Scarf, the Harmony Scarf, the Layers of Love Scarf and the Cranberry Scarf. I am really excited to try the Shades of You Scarf!

I’ve learned people are more aware when I am covered. For instance, like when I am running errands. People are so caught up in their everyday list of things to do that they rush here and there, and don’t always pay attention to.the people around them, as well as to how they treat others. Since I’ve been covering, I’ve noticed that people are more respectful and they know boundaries without having to be told, which is always appreciated. If you’re someone just learning how to wrap, I highly recommend the Wendy Shaper and the Mini Bobo Shaper. The Harmony Scarf is absolutely beautiful😍 and matches so many things. Petalsoft Scarves and Tuff 2 in 1s Scarves are amazing, and light and fresh, for summer days. And definitely follow Wrapunzel’s YouTube Channel! They have so many great women there and tutorials that teach you tricks that will bring your tying to the next level.

I am grateful to G-d for the beautiful family He has given me, our beautiful tribe, and synagogue, and the beautiful women at Wrapunzel who helped me to rekindle the depths of my identity.
